Fressnapf donates thousands of euros in the form of petfood to animal homes
Animal homes in Germany are in dire need. Lack of money and space, as well as other events such as the floods in Summer 2002, have made it hard for the animal homes to provide the necessary standard of care for their charges. By donating food and money to animal homes linked to the German Animal Welfare Association, Fressnapf is trying to improve the situation for these institutions. The company has made major contributions to aid and support with its donations to the Kandelhof animal home in Gutenfürst and animal homes in Mühlhausen and Sömmerda. The head of Tierschutzverein Plauen und Umgebung e. V. and also of the Kandelhof animal home, Karin Oettmeier, is very grateful for these donations. "This is a great help to us, as money is very tight for us".
Many facilities in Germany are hopelessly overcrowded and it is often difficult for the managers and staff to provide sufficient care for their charges. A lot of people buy an animal without thinking about the consequences of their actions ? they don't realise that an animal needs intensive care. The result: the animals are then dumped soon after at an animal home. There is a great need to find animals new homes. In order for the rehousing of an animal to succeed and give the animals a lovely new home long-term, Mrs Oettmeier emphasises the importance of communication with prospective pet owners. "It's important to us that we discuss the situation with prospective owners. We offer them tips on looking after their pet and are happy to provide consultation and advice for anyone interested in one of our animals."
Sadly, not every animal rehousing is successful and some animals are tricky to rehome. It is therefore all the more important to provide support for animal home activities in order to ensure that homeless animals can be given a safe place to stay before being found a permanent home with a family. Donations, like the food and money given by Fressnapf, are fundamental to safeguarding the very existence of animal homes.
The German Pet Register was started by an initiative from the German Animal Welfare Association, supported by Fressnapf. It allows you to register your pet free of charge, making it quicker and easier to reunite lost animals with their owners. This register takes the pressure off animal homes, which would otherwise be responsible for the long-term care of these animals.
